OK , before actuate on , permit ’s just beam this out : Some participants half - ignored the challenge , just stopping down to f/22 and praying for the proficient , rather than reckon where was best in the picture to focalize . This technique sure as shooting works in a jam , but the closing mathematical product might not be as skilful as it COULD be . Diffractionwill ultimately prescribe whether that photographic print is desirable for your wall and/or museum .

A few of you run with long exposures and wide apertures . At first , I was a bit have aback , but then I realise , if you ’re expend 30 seconds to several minutes to maybe even an time of day on a gibe , roll in the hay what will appear in focusing is all the more authoritative , and the principle of hyperfocal length certainly come into play . Thanks for teaching me that one !
Lead Shot – Take Off
I took this picture at the UC Davis airport . I sat with my camera on my bag with the shot composed and my genus Lens set to the right hyperfocal centering position and waited for a plane to take off . It took a few planes to get one in the right position . Thanks to Peter Hess for his service with the berth work on this picture . I believe this was take at an aperture of f/16 or f/22 … not sure because the manual lens does n’t spare EXIF data . Lighthouse
This is the old pharos in Scituate Harbor , MA . Thanks to this challenge I discovered my television camera ’s DOF preview push on the front , and find out some important deterrent example re : aperture and light conditions . Thanks Gizmodo ! I am not sure how much of this proficiency I ’ll be using in the future tense ( Having to count on the HFD on the spotlight is punishing , since many time the shot is unpredictable ) , but in this character it was a great learning experience . It in reality act upon ! Canon T2i , 50 millimetre genus Lens , ISO 800 , 18 mm , 0EV , f/10 , 1/2000

Tree Tunnel
I ’ve always enjoyed this persuasion . Since you have to wrick aside from the watershed people come to see I inquire how many the great unwashed take the prison term to appreciate this particular view . I like using one lens , often a bloom for each “ shooting adventure ” I take , force myself to regain great pic without relying on a variety of gear . I am often surprised at the variableness and creativity one can have with say , a 50 millimeter lens . I used my Canon 7D with a 50 mm bloom to get this shot . photo meter 1/1000 and farad - stop 11 .

The Light
A kinda sorta long vulnerability ( 14 transactions is kind of short by my monetary standard , I ’m usually doing them in the 1 - 2 hour range . . . ) shot maybe 20 minutes before daybreak . What you ca n’t see are the sub - freezing temperature and the 20 MPH winds blowing nearly stock-still common salt nebulizer into the melodic phrase . bourgeon on a Nikon D700 with a 16 - 35 f/4 VRII . 14 minutes @ ISO 200 f/4 .

Trainspotting
I enjoy tear the many old oil area train trestles here in Warren , PA – they offer great contrast ( particularly now in wintertime ) , view and detail . I used a tripod and remote for most of my attempts for this challenge , but I ended up taking this shot handheld . I used a ready to hand DOF figurer app because , really , who require to digest around in 16 degree river wind doing algebra ? Kinda takes the fun out of the photography . The bolts / stud at the utmost unexpended edge of the skeletal system are about 8 feet from me , the far conclusion of the bridge is around 1,000 foot from me , the houses on the other side of the river nearly half a mile .
