It ’s sort of your worst nightmare : a computing machine virus as contagious as the unwashed cold that avoids espial and infects every estimator on a give wi - fi mesh . You just pop into your local burnt umber shop for a caffe latte and a small net surfing , and you leave with a computer virus . This is scary !
unluckily , we now roll in the hay it ’s not just scary but potential . A team of researcher from the University of Liverpool just created such a virus . They call it “ Chamaeleon . ” As the name imply , it can hop from connection to connection without being mark , targeting wireless networks that are the least protect . expanse that are more crowded are even more susceptible since they allow the computer virus to spread more easy . Coffee shop , then , would be an idealistic target .
Very fortunately , Chameleon is just a simulation — for now . The research worker really created Chameleon as a sort of discourage about what cyber-terrorist can now do . Previously , it was thought that virusescouldn’t attack over the air . “ But we demonstrate that this is possible and that it can spread quickly , ” say Professor Alan Marshallin a program line . “ We are now able to use the datum generated from this study to develop a raw technique to name when an attack is likely . ”
It just makes you wonder what else is potential . Can virus spread through rain buckets video ? What about cellular networks ? Are those susceptible , too ? In a sense , the ways that viruses can be spread are limit only to the hacker ’ imaginations .
