At around 5,500 age quondam , the researchers say this challenging relic is help to shed some light on how and when cities first start out to come forth in the area .
The gate stands 1.5 meters ( 4 metrical foot 11 inches ) tall and is flank by two towers made of large Lucy Stone that attach to the metropolis wall , which were uncovered in old excavation . Carving through the eye of the logic gate is a road built of large stone that extend into the ancient city .
Tel Erani has been part of ongoing excavations since the fifties . The urban center stood for centuries , but it appears to have been at its peak during the Early Bronze Age around 3330 to 3050 BCE . Like great citiesoften do , it eventually vanish into ruins around the 6th century BCE , most likely after beinginvaded by the Babylonians , who also put down Jerusalem around this fourth dimension .

distinctly , however , the gate was built to keep some outside military force on the other side of the city walls . As such , the archaeologists on the labor suggest that the ancient logic gate is also utile for understanding ancient rivalries and warfare .
“ It is likely that all passers - by , traders or enemy , who require to enter the city had to clear through this impressive gate . The logic gate not only defended the small town , but also communicate the message that one was enter an important strong closure that was well - organized politically , socially and economically , ” say Martin - David Pasternak , an other Bronze Age archaeologist with the IAA .
“ This was the message to outsiders , perchance also to Egypt , where the process that would result to the uniting of the Lower and Upper Egypt under King Narmer was already start . At the end of the Early Bronze Age , the Egyptians themselves come here and settled the tell , and they reprocess the logic gate . "
