The World Meteorological Organization ( WMO ) has officially announced that carbon dioxide levels in the air reached 407.8 parts per million in 2018 – an increase from the already record - break level of 405.5 parts per million ( ppm ) in 2017 .
CO2 levels thwart the 400 ppm benchmark in 2015 and has go along to increase unimpeded . The upgrade in 2017 to 2018 is close to the increase date between 2016 and 2017 , and is slightly higher than the middling yearly increase over the last 10 , according to theGreenhouse Gas Bulletin .
