All good thing must come to an closing , and that includesThe Walking Dead’srecentstreakof funepisodes , it seems . The show closed out its 2d batch of episodes with a finale that was full of phone and fury , signifying … well , very little .
“ number of God ” is by no mean a horrendous sequence of TWD , but it takes the various plot line the show has been threading through the last couple of months and then gently sets them down instead of gratifyingly tying them off . The instalment starts hard , with a subtitle reading “ 19 minute AND ONE ACT OF GOD AGO ” just before Hornsby , at Hilltop along with his Commontrooper soldiers , steps in a puddle of blood and brains and then looks up at a sky full of locusts . God ( making Hissecond Edgar Albert Guest appearanceon the show ) unleashing a Biblical infestation is a hell of a way to kick back off a mid - time of year finale , or so it would seem .
Knowing Hornsby ’s forces are on the direction , Maggie , Ezekiel , and a small fry who I ’ll name Redd W. Shurt go out Hilltop to drop Maggie ’s son Hershel off with Negan , Annie , and the other Riverbenders , who have been hiding in an old ( and passing enceinte ) ex - Whisperer bunker . Hornsby send Daryl , Gabriel , and Aaron out with some Commontroopers who are clearly supposed to kill them later , but the trio manages to kill them all with only Aaron sustaining a wound . The night light , Maggie leaves a tripwire in the Hilltop mansion to kill some ‘ trooper , Leah shoots Mr. Shurt more or less between the eyes , and then things get kind of perplexing .

Maggie , Leah , Daryl , Aaron , Gabriel , and Hornsby and his soldiers expend the mass of the rest of the episode ramble around a glowering timberland , make it very difficult to get any kind of sense of where the characters are in sexual intercourse to each other . This may be to add suspense to the proceedings , especially Maggie and Leah ’s hunt for each other , but mostly the scenes make everyone look lose as opposed to tense , specially since only three characters manage to meet each other .
The first two are Maggie and Leah , naturally , who have a brief engagement in the wood before Maggie is ping out . When she awakes , Leah has her ( poorly ) tied to a chair , in a cabin , where she take in the traditional “ I ’m gon na kill everyone you love and then kill you ” threat / spoken language . Maggie , luckily but uninterestingly , manages to unblock herself from the ropes ostensibly tied by a former fatal - ops mercenary , and the two competitiveness . To be fair , it ’s a outstanding , ugly battle between the two womanhood , and they trounce the holy hell out of each other until the third character stops by , Daryl , who shoots Leah just before she was about to shoot down Maggie . If Daryl has any variety of an aroused chemical reaction to slay the woman he once loved , he has it off - screen . Hornsby and his scout troop almost find them at the cabin , but Daryl and Maggie run through a back window , avoiding a potentially interesting conflict that the show is keep open for the last third of the series . Then Hornsby ’s Commontroopers take over Hilltop , Alexandria , and Oceanside , unfurling their not - un - Fascist banner over the walls . The end .
You may have noticed I have n’t mention the locusts again , and that ’s because they do n’t forecast into the story at all other . They ’re buzz around for a while , and multitude once in a while look up at the cloud in the sky in apprehension , but they do n’t do anything or dissemble anyone . you’re able to barely call it an number of God , unless that routine is God briefly kill by to prompt mass that while He create the snake god Book of Revelation , He can bring more misery down on people at any time .

Even the action inside the Commonwealth is weirdly altered . Max manages to steal a file title “ Resettlements ” from Pamela ’s office , but when she , Eugene , Connie , Kelly , Magna , and Ezekiel arrest it out , all it read is that 200 Commonwealthers have been “ resettle . ” Although the number of missing the great unwashed has increase , the work party still has no idea where they ’ve been hold because the filing cabinet is in codification . The only thing of consequence that pass is that Connie decide to save an article about Kingsley ’s heist fromtwo episode agowhile everyone await for more information , which Governor Pam watch and is quite vexed by . But if there ’s an actual consequence to Connie ’s front - page story , it ’s also been saved for the final eight episodes .
So , yeah . Revolution is brew in the Commonwealth , which we make love . Daryl and the gang are persona non grata with Hornsby , which we knew was come . Leah died , which is technically a developing , except this means she carry through absolutely nothing after sheescaped from Maggiewhen these spring episode kicked off back in February . At least Hornsby has taken control condition of the three colony , but this would certainly feel more of import if we had any idea why he wanted them other than some highly nebulose sense of “ power . ”
Still , “ Acts of God ” was n’t a bad episode , it was just one the show spent gyrate its wheels . It ’s kind of a bummer for a mid - season coda — The Walking Dead ’s terminal mid - season finale — but it also does n’t blow the good will fostered by the spate of solidly pleasurable episodes that preceded it . When the show returns this fall , one of our riffraff groups of survivors will ultimately go to war with the larger and well - fit army of the Commonwealth while the other essay to destruct the oligarchy from within . Should be a good metre … at least for the persona who pull through .

Eugene tells Max she ’s the most wonderful thing that ’s ever happen in his “ heretofore uneventful aliveness . ” My dude , you ’ve live through a zombie apocalypse , convert a group of peopleyou had a curethat could salve the man , and briefly cuckold all your Friend and join the Saviors . “ Uneventful ” is not the term I would use .
Ooh ! most forget . The Maggie - Negan drama seems like it ’s finally over for honorable thanks to Negan deliver her kidskin Hershel at Riverbend . “ Whatever has happened , I will never forget that , ” she enjoin . I was genuinely moved , if only because I ’m super felicitous to see the show move on .

I have no idea what the deal is with Hornsby ’s new fixation with coin flips is . It comes out of nowhere , and then end with him basically becoming the Batman villain Two - Face after Daryl shoots him across his cheek .
I honestly could speak about the Commonwealth ’s newspaper for about 2,000 news . It ’s utterly wild . Almost the entirety of the front cover is just a headline , and that headline in “ PAMELA MILTON IS LYING TO YOU ” which is a tangential point at unspoilt if the story is about her son Kingsley sending people to their death to grab him some cash . ( Also , did Pam even acknowledge ? ) What ’s even weirder is that the headline is write in four wildly different fonts , a conclusion that would give any professional print journalist a encephalon aneurism . Also , Pam throws about 50 pieces of newspaper on Max ’s desk . Is the newspaper publisher 50 pages or did Pam grab 50 copies ? If it ’s the former , was there not a reaper binder snip or something on it ? I know it ’s the post - apocalypse but if the Commonwealth has icing cream and the power to print a paper , it ’s acquire ta have office supplies , correct ?
