Every hebdomad wreak more selective information that one of our master characters is a cosmic chewtoy . Nothing has exit good for Jamie , ever . Even his love for Claire is marred by the , you know , time locomotion parts .
This week , we tally utter brother to Jamie ’s drained parents , crippled salutary friend , cost on his brain , snappy , and attempted intimate ravishment backstory . In the nowadays , he ’s dumbfound blackmail and an ambush follow for him . The universe just does not care him .
For a show that has covered as much ground as it has , “ The Watch ” really feel like we ’re treading water for a mo . Maybe that ’s just what happens when we leave the intrigue - filled hall of Castle Leoch .

Spoilers …
At this point in the show , we all have to admit that Jamie is not the sharpest knife in the drawer , ripe ? He should literally never be parted from Jenny , as I ’m reasonably certain she got all the common sense in the phratry .
The cliffhanger from the last sequence is easily resolved as the men pointing guns at Jamie are revealed to be the Watch , which everyone pays protection money to and would out Jamie to the English without a second thought .

William Le Baron Jenny flies in to base Jamie as her cousin-german — not her outlaw blood brother — and beginning fix all the things the Watch demand . Jamie is topnotch - dickish about the manner that the Watch has purchase over Lallybroch . And he can not keep it to himself . He ’s all pissy when he ’s dealing with one of their lame gymnastic horse and then get in a giant fight when they burn up hay .
And , yes , the Watch are assholes but Jamie needs to be so much smarter since he ’s the one with everything at post . Jenny and Ian are well - practiced at making pleasant face while dealing with the Watch , another augury that they ’re better suit to be in charge to Jamie .
Another problem arrives in the mannikin of Horrocks , the ground forces defector who Jamie met with right before Claire got grabbed by Black Jack ’s redcoat . He tries to blackmail Jamie , but Ian guide him through .

honest acting prize this week go to Steven Cree as Ian — his traumatized response to killing so long after he ’s left military living is very well done — and Douglas Henshall as the leader of the Watch , Taran . The rest of his group are sort of typical fighters , but Taran is very cagey and irregular in every prospect . He jab holes in the floor that Ian and Jenny tell to excuse Jamie . But he bear for the hay the Watch burns . When Horrocks drop dead , he says he never liked the guy anyway . But he does need another hand for their raid , so off Jamie goes with them . And so does Ian .
Henshall ’s got a great hold on what Taran get laid and what motivates him , and it simmers under the words he actually say very well . It almost made this patch deserving it .
Then we get word that the trick was n’t necessary since Jamie comes clean about throw a price on his head and Horrocks threaten his family — although he call for the blame for the killing from Ian . And Taran explains to Jamie later that he does what he does because he ’s a fighter , and this is how he does that now that he ’s not at warfare . And that he ’d never call on someone over to the English .

As is now traditional , Jamie terminate up in deadly risk . The spot for the raid that Horrocks pluck out — which really should have been a clue — is actually the spot for an trap . Ian makes it back , Jamie , of course , is captured .
As for Claire and Jenny , most of this sequence has to do with Jenny giving birth and Claire helping her with the breech birth . Claire is at her competent better here and Jenny , when state Claire will have to turn the babe inside her , just goes with “ I ’m going to involve a drink . ” Claire says the babe might be born drunk , too . William Le Baron Jenny : “ Then he ’ll be deport a real Scot . ” I love Jenny the most .
As for Claire ’s anguished entrance fee that she does n’t believe she ’ll be able to have tyke , that ’s , whatever . For woman of both her sentence and the one she ’s in , feel like a loser for that would be normal . I ’ve spent my anger over this particular direction of using infertility as drama in other place this weekend .

As much as I love Jenny , I have to take on that the Lallybroch plot have been far less interesting than the Castle Leoch ones . We spent so much of the start of the time of year there and with those role , it ’s arduous to muster up too much ebullience . I just want to have intercourse what ’s croak on with intoxicated and in mourning Dougal . And Colum ’s politicking . And , seriously , what was up with Geillis ? What happened after she confessed and was burn ? Did the Duke ever actually deliver the accusations against Black Jack ?
All of which we ’ve left behind for a week of “ Jamie makes bad decisions , almost dies / gets beguile , but we all know he ’ll be fine come next week . ” What happened to lovely layered show I used to bed ? I have faith we ’ll get back to all that , but I opine you could skim “ The Watch ” and not lose much of anything .
