An international group of astronomers have   discovered a distinct lack of dark matter in the disc of turbinate galaxies 10 billion years ago .

The reflexion , reported inNature , suggests that dark topic did not condense as quick as the gas , leave the core of galaxies birl much faster than the border of the disc . former galaxies are plentiful in gas and more compact than spiral galaxy today .

The result is quite spectacular . black matter was first advise to explicate how both the core and edges of spiral revolve with the same velocity , but here we have galaxies that   show the expected behavior from gasoline - predominate objects – namely that the velocity decreases the further from the core you get .

“ amazingly , the rotation velocity are not constant , but decrease further out in the galaxies , ” pass generator Reinhard Genzel , from the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics , say in astatement .   “ There are believably two causes for this . Firstly , most of these early monolithic Galax urceolata are strongly dominated by normal matter , with dark issue play a much small role than in the local universe . Secondly , these early discs were much more turbulent than the spiral galaxy we see in our cosmic vicinity . ”

It appears that these two force are in particular rife during the peak of genius organisation and pot assembly of   galaxy , which occurred between 3 and 4 billion years after the Big Bang 13.8 billion long time ago . According to the detailed models , there ’s an equivalent amount of dark and normal matter in these former galax , although the motion is dominate by the latter .

While the newspaper reckon at the data point for a handful of beetleweed , the observations were part of a series of larger studies look at 240 star - mould galaxies that corroborate these finding . The researchers used the European Southern Observatory ’s ( ESO ) Very Large Telescope to investigate these objects .

While these upstage galaxies are clearly spirals , they are not unmediated ascendant of the Milky Way . spiraling galaxies in the local universe require a luck more dark matter , so passive spheroidal wandflower are more potential to have been their descendants .

And while coloured matter outweighs normal matter five to one , they have the same importance in galaxy organic evolution .
