Hoda Kotb‘s day starts long before she takes her seat behindToday‘s desk and, later, pours herself a glass of wine alongsideKathie Lee Gifford.

Kotb, 54, opened up about her daily routine during a recent interview withThe Cut, revealing her most useful morning habits.

“I have two alarms set on my phone. One goes off at 3 a.m. and one goes off at 3:15 a.m. I’m one of those people who pops up,” she says. “I don’t usually linger too much.”

In fact, the morning show host warns against becoming too reliant on the snooze button.

“Don’t hit snooze. Don’t do it. You wanna do it, you think that ten more minutes is gonna be great. It’s never good,” she explains. “Once you hit snooze, your day is no bueno, because you’re already behind.”

After waking up and showering, Kotb says she takes a few moments to herself to reflect on the many blessings in her life before diving into the day ahead.

“I sit down at our kitchen table with a journal,” she says. “I don’t care if I happen to be running late or if I have all the time in the world, I try to do this one thing no matter what. In the journal, I’ll write the three things I’m grateful for just right there in that moment. Like, one, two, three. And then one amazing thing that happened the day before. It’s almost like a level set.”

But once she’s home from work, Kotb says she turns off her phone and focuses on what’s most important: her2-year-old daughter Haley Joy.

“Haley is the great erasure of pain, of stress, of everything, really,” she says. “I’ll come in kind of stressed out from a day or something and I’ll look at her, and all of a sudden I’ll realize,Oh, this is it. This is what matters. What was I worried about?”

And for breakfast? Starbucks’ Sous Vide Egg Bites. “My mom was like, ‘They’re full of sodium, stop eating them.’ But who cares? They’re good,” she says.

“There’s days where things are all over the place, and Hoda knows that side of me,” Bush Hagerrecently told PEOPLE. “And both of our purses are disasters, and I think it’s like the brace of learning. It doesn’t have to be all together. My hair could be a mess, and who really cares. I think that’s what has made me feel happiest: that perfection is boring and luckily for me I’m not anymore.”

“Jenna’s the kind of person who says ‘I did it and I’m here,’ and she laughs at herself. I think that is all that stuff in a big bowl of soup that makes Jenna work. And, I am beyond thrilled, like beyond thrilled,” Kotb added. “She knows she’s going to bring her own style. She’s going to bring her own magic fairy dust, because that’s what she does.”
