Kelly : Lucasfilm provides direction on the characters they want to focus on and each short high spot an aspect of what ready that character who they are . In the process of making the adaptations , I had to give up my knowledge of Star Wars , step back , and expect at the context of these scene . As a team , we were asking ourselves : “ Why does Luke care beyond his humble beginnings ? Why does the universe fear Vader ? What makes Chewie a great co - pilot burner ? Or , what makes Leia a great leader ? ” To get those compass point across clearly , we pull from the scenes that best exhibit a particular quality of a reference .

Then we ’d cram on storyboards with Lucasfilm , acquire the melodic theme and purification until we had a really strong animatic . Kelly : The Emperor suddenly summarized his plan to build the Empire across the prequels into the OG trilogy .
