Kate Middletonhas taken a step back from public duties since undergoingabdominal surgeryin January. After revealing in anemotional video messageon Friday that she has been diagnosed with cancer, more questions have arisen about when the Princess of Wales is expected to return to royal engagements.
According to Kensington Palace, Kate will make her official return based on advice from her doctors as she undergoes chemotherapy.
In her video, Kate called her diagnosis a “huge shock,” adding that she and husbandPrince William"have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family."
“As you can imagine, this has taken time. It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment,” she continued.

The Princess of Wales said she and William have also needed time to explain everything to their three children,Prince George, 10,Princess Charlotte, 8, andPrince Louis, 5 in a way that is “appropriate” for them.

The Princess of Wales, 42, has not stepped out in an official capacity since Christmas. Last weekend, she wasseen for the first time on videoout in public during a shopping trip with William near their home in Windsor.
“Kate was out shopping with William, and she looked happy and she looked well, " an onlooker told the outlet.
